OTSOG 016, Black Spruce (Picea mariana), 2024

Watercolour on paper laminated with aluminium composite panel
10x8

Weird and wonderful unique worlds appear at all strata in the forest.  At Sleeping Giant Provincial park, a decaying black spruce trunk hosts a unique life form.  Bright, bubblegum pink bubbles of wolf’s milk slime mould (Lycogala epidendrum), a myxogastrid amoeba speckle the surface.

Framed in spruce wood from SPF lumber (likely Picea mariana)
